Lineman from traditional OH power has UC offer, Pitt and WVU from BE interested, too

Dublin (OH)’s Coffman High School has been a traditional power in the landscape of Ohio High School football. The Shamrocks have qualified for the playoffs six of the last seven years, and were the Regional Champions in both 2001 and 2003, and 2007 under coach Mark Crabtree. Current (or recent) NFL players such as Brady Quinn, Nick Goings, Dave Kadela and Ikechuku and Chinedum Ndukwe have come through the program in recent memory.

The Shamrocks are off to another great start, moving to 5-0 after last weekend’s 51-7 victory over previously unbeaten Groveport (4-1). One key member to their success could end up being one of their more highly recruited players in recent seasons, junior (2011) Brad Carrico, a 6-foot-6, 255-lb lineman.

Carrico has high hopes for this year’s team, which already has a long-lasting memory from the season opener.

“[We] beat Olentangy Liberty 52-0 in the Horseshoe on ESPNU,” Carrico told NBE Sports about opening the season in the Herbstreit Classic on August 30th. “[That[ has been the highlight so far.”

With the season just halfway over, there is still a long way to go, but Carrico and his team have some lofty goals in the ultra-competitive Ohio high school football landscape.

“As a team I think our goal is to win a state championship, and goals for me I want to do everything in my power to help the team win and just play as hard as I can at all times,” said Carrico.

College coaches always keep an eye on the Coffman and with Carrico playing on the varsity as a sophomore last season, his name became well-known in recruiting circles pretty quickly. While he is unsure what position he will ultimately wind up at for college, he will certainly have his options.

“I’m not really sure,” replied Carrico when asked of expected college position. “I play DE right now but see myself putting on weight and playing DT or any position on the OL.”

With September being the first month college coaches could offer scholarships to the class of 2011, Carrico picked up one right off the bat, confirming his status as one of the top prospects in the region in the class, with other top programs keeping a close eye on his progress.

“I have an offer from Cincinnati,” said Carrico. “I favor Cincinnati, Michigan, Purdue, Michigan State, Northwestern, Vanderbilt, Kansas, Pittsburgh and West Virginia.”

Carrico has seen his share of those on his list as well, taking previous unofficial visits to unofficals to Cincinnati, Purdue, Illinois, Pitt, Michigan and he plans on going to Michigan State, Northwestern, Vanderbilt, Kansas and West Virginia between now and his senior season.

NBE Sports will be sure to continue following the developments in the recruitment of Brad Carrico as the 2011 line prospect becomes one of Ohio’s most sought after recruits.
